The Nazarene Church Campground is located at the top of a mountain, after climbing a windy dusty or muddy road, depending on the season. The campground draws its fame from the view it provides and being a place where people are called to dedicate their lives to God and to ministry. It is also a place where friendships are formed and a place of happiness of great times of fun and relaxation.
Luis would spend long hours cleaning before and after rental groups, making sure the dorms, bathrooms, kitchen and chapel were ready. In addition to that he would run the snack shop until late at night and was always there early in the mornings to help with whatever needed his attention. He also was a excellent gardner and always made sure the gardens looked nice and he cut weeds with a machete.
Luis and Louisa Luis recently became ill and Luisa, his daughter, decided that after 33 years of working it was time to bring her dad home. Home to where he grew up and to live with her and her family where it is safer and so she could attend to his health. The situation of where the camp is located and the economical fall he was recently robbed and beaten on more than one occasion.
Luisa grew up on the campground and now is living in Ecuador. She is a Jr. High English teacher, a wife and mother to her little girl.
No one is really sure how old Luis is as his documents say 78 but his family says 88 years old.
Since Luisa made a last minute decision to get her dad, it is by the grace of God that they were able to return to Ecuador with the paperwork either one of them had.
It was a sad day for the Jiraquito community when Luis left. Luis made friends and was loved by anyone around him. He never turned down a person that needed help and so the memory of him will live on in Jiraquito and the small surrounding villages.
Well done thy good and faithful servant, Luis. We pray for your health and that God will continue to use you.
